I've been enjoying my return to Friday afternoons on Theory Radio. It's even more fun doing the shows live from Doomie's Home Cookin' again! Friends have been coming around and sitting in, noshing and chatting. I hope more of you will come out for the live shows. If the turn-out gets better, I can start doing a weekly drawing for a FREE LUNCH from Doomie's for one lucky visitor each week. I will update the blog when that starts up.
Theory Radio is slowly picking up steam. The other DJs are kicking the dust off their rigs and jumping in over time, and we hope to have a healthy schedule again soon. We try to finance the operation ourselves, but we're always happy for donations. You can go to the Theory Radio site and find a link to our Cafe Press goodies, or you can just donate cash directly. Every dollar helps a lot, so if you can afford a buck or two, we'll be happy to put it to use keeping the station going!
Don't forget, I also KJ every Monday night at GROUND CONTROL! You can find us at our usual spot, downstairs at Jewel's Catch One. There's no cover, it's 18+, and we have a full bar for all you drinkers. Parking in the rear of the building is safe and secure, and FREE. Come down and say 'hi' some time!

Don't know about the rest of you DJ people out there, but I love me some VirtualDJ 7. However, it didn't seem to want to do anything remotely worthwhile with my M-Audio XSession Pro USB mixer. I took some time and figured out all the MIDI mapping names for all the controls, and assigned some VDJscript commands and such. Works like a charm! Now I gotta actually figure out how to DJ better. :-P
I published a PDF that might help y'all remap your XSession Pro mixer too. Let me know what you think!

The legal / licensing issues have been resolved, and Theory Radio is back and running. It'll take a week or two for the other DJs and myself to get a few robo streams up and running so there will be 24/7 music going again. But the worst of it is resolved, so you'll be hearing from your favorite eclectic DJs very soon!
I will be starting NOT WORK SAFE back up regularly again. And now that DOOMIE'S HOME COOKIN is in full effect, I will be going live on location from the restaurant, located at Fountain & Vine in Hollywood! This Friday, and every Friday thereafter, join me at Doomie's restaurant for a very diverse selection of music, food and company. I'll be there from noon to 2pm, so come down and have lunch with me!

It's really awesome to share the anticipation of a new TRON movie with my 11 year-old son.
The first movie was one of those life-altering experiences for me. Until that point, science fiction movies were predominantly space-oriented. This was the first to really touch on the reality of cyberspace. It set the tone and the bar for what would be the internet / cyberspace movie genre for years to come. Hell, what would expectations for the first Matrix movie have been like without TRON laying the groundwork?
Yes, I took my DJ name from the movie. It just made sense. "Laptop DJs" get so much grief for not being "real" DJs, it made me rethink what I was doing. I *don't* DJ, I MP3J. No virtual vinyl, no rigged CD DJ decks. Closest I come to that is the spin dials on my old Hercules 1. I unashamedly take full advantage of the automated resources inherent and intrinsic to music mixing software. The computer handles the complexities normally addressed by realtime analog control of vinyl or even CDs. Since I was wantonly abusing various software modules for my own aggrandizement and amusement, "Sark" seemed an utterly appropriate name to misappropriate. :-) |
